How The BMA Helps Our Parish:

Bishop's Office

Bishop Cotta provides leadership and support for our parish school. He visits Presentation School and presides over Mass at least once a year and visits classrooms as his schedule allows. He is also the presider for our 8th grade Confirmation Mass. On the business end, he approves a minimum diocesan pay scale for our staff to help schools stay competitive with the public schools. His message to the student leaders at this year's Catholic Schools Week Mass was, "You can have straight A's but if you aren't compassionate, or caring, or bear the light of Jesus to everyone you meet, your grades mean nothing."

Bishop's Office

Ana Maria Franco, the Executive Assistant to the Vicar General, Episcopal Vicar, and Chancellor, sends out the annual October Mass count spreadsheet and has helped us in working with the formulas. We work with the Bishop's office to schedule the Confirmation Masses and to seek delegation for emergency Confirmations.

Catholic Schools Office

Marian Graham provides leadership, direction, and support for Pastors and Principals. She meets with principals monthly and oversees diocesan school events such as the Beginning of the Year Diocesan School Staff Workshop and Mass. She works on salary scales for the teachers and presents them to Bishop Cotta for approval. She works with parents who have called the diocesan office with school concerns. She keeps schools up to date on the latest information for illness, trends, etc. Marian also also facilitates the SEEDS and Stagnaro Scholarships. She also oversees our EdJoin account and sends employment applications to principals as they are submitted.

Catholic Schools Office

Judee Sani heads professional development for diocesan teachers as well as the New Teacher Monthly meetups. She is a resource for ARK Religion Testing and STAR Math and Reading Standardized Assessments. She serves as the Western Catholic Education Association Commissioner and assists schools as they go through the accreditation process. She is also a resource for curriculum purchasing and continued implementation.

Catholic Schools Office

Jamie Bondoc works with schools to create marketing materials and other avenues to boost enrollment.

Clergy Services

The office of Clergy Services provide our clergy with ongoing formation, training, retreats, and guidance. They also follow up on letters of suitability for visiting clergy who come to celebrate funerals and weddings.

Communications

Marriage preparation documents and resources on the diocesan website offer insights and answers to questions that we share with couples who are preparing to marry in the Church.

Development & Stewardship

The Office of Development and Stewardship provides resources and materials for the BMA and Capital Campaign. They also provide up-to-date tracking of pledges, gifts, and balances.

Evangelization and Faith Formation

The Office of Evangelization & Faith Formation holds monthly meetings to share information and updates on guidelines for the Sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation. They also provide spiritual retreats and formation for catechists, ministry directors, and coordinators. They work with us on our curriculum and help with presentations by various publishers.

Human Resources

The Human Resources Department ensures our parish is up-to-date with HR related materials and resources. They work with us to ensure we are in compliance with local and state employment guidelines. Additionally, they work with our parish on the Safe Environment program, to protect the safety of the children and vulnerable in our community.

Liturgy and Worship Office

They are very helpful in answering questions and clarifying points. Areas of expertise they have assisted us with are sacraments (especially guidance on protocol for special circumstances) and special liturgies. They offer training for ministers to coordinate the OCIA program and remain up to date with the current norms promulgated by the USCCB.

School of Ministry

The School of Ministry offers resources to share with our parishioners for ongoing adult formation in many different areas of spiritual growth.

Tribunal Office (Marriage)

The Marriage Tribunal is providing a workshop to go over the updated requirements on forms, documents, and processes that parishes need for the Sacrament of Marriage. In turn, we will be well-informed and able to assist couples looking to receive the sacrament and commit to the vocation of marriage. Additionally, they provide training and guidance on annulments.

  • Building & Maintenance

Your generous donations to this collection are used for the upkeep and repair of both the ongoing and deferred maintenance of our campus.

Our grounds were beautifully thought out and are reminiscent of the Catholic Missions that came before us. We strive to keep them well-maintained while allowing many generations to come the ability to celebrate God in all of our surroundings.

  • Parish Assessment

The Parish Assessment collection helps to cover the assessment that the Diocese of Stockton imposes on our parish to cover the administrative fees of the diocese.

The reduced rate is for parishioners who are registered Catholic members of CHURCH OF THE PRESENTATION, attend Mass regularly, are active in the parish community life, and contribute monitarily to our parish.

  • Bishop's Ministry Appeal

Ministry Appeal (BMA). The Bishop’s Ministry Appeal supports the many ministries, programs and services provided by the Diocese, which benefit all of our parishes.

The Bishop’s Ministry Appeal helps sustain the parishes, programs and ministries of the Diocese of Stockton through the Bishop’s Ministry Appeal Trust.

Once a year, Catholics throughout the Diocese of Stockton are asked to support these ministries by giving to the Bishop’s Ministry Appeal Trust. Their support plays a key role in advancing the mission of the Church both within and beyond the boundaries of their parishes.

To learn more, visit our BMA page.

  National Collections

Supporting the Church’s works of social justice, evangelization, catechesis, and national and local institutional development--domestically and around the world--through the generosity of parishioners to annual national appeals.

  • Church in Latin America

For over 50 years, the Collection for the Church in Latin America has provided a way to join in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Latin America and the Caribbean. An example is that it helped translate the Catechism into the Mayan language Q’eqchi’.

In Mexico’s Diocese of Iztapalapa, much of the population lives below the poverty line and has trouble meeting basic needs. The crime rate is high. Offenders who complete their jail sentences face rejection and isolation and risk reoffending upon their return to society. With grant support from the Collection for the Church in Latin America, the diocese created the Cristo Redentor evangelization center, where persons released from prison can receive job search help, group therapy, spiritual direction, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. And they can participate in recreational activities such as theater, games, and music, all at no charge.

  • Black and Indian Missions

Mandated by the III Plenary Council in 1884, the 125-year-old National Collection for Black and Indian people continues as the embodiment of the Church’s concern for evangelizing the Black and Indian peoples of the United States. The funds are distributed as grants to dioceses throughout the United States, supporting and strengthening evangelization programs which otherwise would cease. The Collection was formerly known as The Black and Indian Home Mission Collection.

  • Catholic Relief Services

The Catholic Relief Services Collection supports Catholic Church organizations that carry out international relief and solidarity efforts. Programs include relief and resettlement for victims of persecution, war, and natural disasters; development projects to improve living conditions for the poor; legal and support services for poor immigrants; peace and reconciliation work for people suffering from violence; and advocacy on behalf of the powerless.

Contributions to The Catholic Relief Services Collection are distributed to these six organizations:

    1. Catholic Relief Services for international relief and development.
    2. Migration and Refugee Services for refugee resettlement.
    3. Catholic Legal Immigration Network Inc. (CLINIC) for immigration legal services.
    4. Department of Justice, Peace, and Human Development for advocacy.
    5. Holy Father's Relief Fund for emergency relief.
    6. Secretariat of Cultural Diversity in the Church for evangelization and ministry.
  • Holy Land Collection (Good Friday)

Pontifical Collection. Collect funds for support of the Holy Places, and for those pastoral, charitable, educational and social works which the Church supports in the Holy Land for the welfare of their Christian brethren and of the local communities.

  • Catholic Home Missions Appeal

Home mission dioceses across the country face similar challenges: small Catholic populations, great distances between parishes, and economic hardships that make it difficult for parishes to meet the pastoral needs of their communities.

What is a Home Mission Diocese? Home mission dioceses are those Catholic dioceses in the United States, its territories, and former territories that cannot provide basic pastoral services without outside help. Basic pastoral services include Mass, the sacraments, religious education, and ministry training for priests, deacons, religious sisters, and laypeople. Nearly 40% of dioceses in the United States and its territories are considered home missions.

  • Catholic Communications Campaign

The essential mission of the CCC is to contribute to the process of evangelization by fostering activities in relation to television, radio, internet, and other media, and through special projects of the Catholic press. An annual collection is taken up in the dioceses, which remit 50% of the funds collected to the National Office. From these funds, grants are made by the USCCB Subcommittee on the Catholic Communication Campaign. The remaining portion of the collection is retained by the dioceses for use in local communication projects.

Merchant mariners, ¬fishermen, port workers, and others working in the maritime industries have special pastoral needs to remain connected with their faith. For over a century, Apostleship of the Sea (AOS) has served merchant sailors around the world by providing sacraments and spiritual renewal through port chaplaincies, as well as hospitality, recreational opportunities, and communication with loved ones at home.

Where do your funds go? Half of the collected funds remain in your diocese to support local communications projects. The other half supports the collective communication work of the bishops of the United States as well as other national projects in the United States and around the world.

  • Collection for the Holy Father (Peter's Pence)

The Peter’s Pence Collection enables the Holy Father to respond with emergency financial assistance to requests to aid the neediest throughout the world—those who suffer as a result of war, oppression, and natural disasters. It likewise provides the faithful with a tangible opportunity to not only empower the weak, defenseless, and voiceless, but also sustain those who suffer.

For more information on Peter’s Pence, please visit the Vatican’s Peter’s Pence website: www.obolodisanpietro.va/ en/cos-e-l-obolo.html (English) or www.obolodisanpietro.va/ es/cos-e-l-obolo.html (español). Support for such papal efforts is rooted in the scriptural message exhorting us to take care of the poor, and it expresses unity with the Holy Father in two ways: through the ongoing activities of the Holy See and through the charitable works of the Holy Father on behalf of those most in need.

  • Catholic University of America

Since 1903, the National Collection – the only nationwide second collection taken for higher education in the U.S. – has been a critical source of funding for Catholic University. Thanks to the collection, the University has been able to educate thousands of young minds in both faith and reason, while upholding the highest standards of education and conducting critical research to serve dioceses, parishes and pastors throughout our country.

  • Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD)

For more than 50 years, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) has supported organizations that combat poverty and improve the lives of people in communities across the United States. Not only do CCHD-funded organizations advocate with civic, business, and community religious leaders to improve access to affordable housing, job and educational opportunities, and rights for immigrants—they also respond quickly to urgent needs when communities experience emergencies.

When you support CCHD, you help local communities across the country innovate and work together to solve their own unique challenges. Twenty-¬five percent of your contribution stays in your diocese to support the organizations addressing your community’s needs for housing, jobs, and educational opportunities—and for keeping the lights on during a storm.

  • Retirement for Religious

The Retirement Fund for Religious (RFR) provides funding to any religious institute in the U.S. that is listed in the religious institute section of the OCD with an identifying OCD number, and that has an unfunded past service liability. It distributes financial assistance from the fund to religious institutes based on a formula and criteria approved by the conferences of major superiors and bishops. Annual appeal begun in 1988 and approved through 2027.

The Retirement Fund for Religious helps thousands of elderly religious individuals retire with dignity. Your donation will provide essential care, medicine and other necessities for nearly 25,000 senior sisters, brothers and religious order priests who have served for decades—usually for little or no pay. Let us show our appreciation by generously supporting those who have given so much.

The National Religious Retirement Office coordinates the annual national appeal for the Retirement Fund for Religious and distributes financial assistance for retirement needs to eligible religious institutes. The National Religious Retirement Office and the Retirement Fund for Religious are sponsored by the Conference of Major Superiors of Men, Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious, Leadership Conference of Women Religious, and United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.  NRRO strives to support, educate and assist religious institutes in the United States to care for their elderly and frail members now and in the future. NRRO aims to:

    1. raise funds for retired religious;
    2. help religious institutes realistically assess their current retirement needs and implement planning;
    3. educate religious institutes to allocate assets realistically;
    4. develop educational tools, programs, services and resource materials that enable religious institutes to address retirement wisely.sacraments and spiritual renewal through port chaplaincies, as well as hospitality, recreational opportunities, and communication with loved ones at home.
  • World Mission Sunday

Every year on the second to last Sunday of October, parishes around the world observe World Mission Sunday, and a special collection is taken up to support the work of the Church in mission territories in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Europe.
