The Church of God is convoked in Synod
Pope Francis has called the entire People of God to journey together by participating in the upcoming Synod of Bishops. This Synod is entitled: “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, and Mission.” It is not just another meeting with oral presentations and written reports.
The Synod is a process of journeying together by listening, dialoguing, praying, discerning, and making decisions together for the purpose of proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Clergy, religious and laity together are called to listen to each other’s joys and hopes, and griefs and anxieties (cf. Gaudium et Spes no. 1).
The “goal” of this journeying together is not to create a new vision or pastoral plan with objectives. Rather, the goal of our journeying together is to be present with one another, to listen and learn with each other, and to grow closer to the Lord and His Church.
As we are called to embrace this synodal path of the Synod 2021-2023, this prayer invites the Holy Spirit to operate within us so that we may be a community and a people of grace. For the Synod 2021-2023, we propose to use this simplified version, so that any group or liturgical assembly can pray more easily.

Welcome message from Bishop Myron J. Cotta:
Brothers and Sisters, It is with much joy and gratitude that I welcome you to this Synod listening session. This session along with all the listening sessions that are being held throughout the world, are fundamental to the 2023 Synod. Pope Francis has invited the universal Catholic Church to participate in the Synod of Bishops scheduled to take place in Rome in October 2023. His Holiness is inviting the People of God to journey together, in Communion, Participation and Mission. |
Together as the Body of Christ, we will listen to one another, dialogue, pray, and discern what the Spirit is saying to us in these gatherings. We do this as the Body of Christ who journey together for the purpose of proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
These listening sessions will have an impact throughout the Diocese of Stockton. Over the past several years, the Pastoral Staff has begun working with parishes throughout the diocese to implement the vision entitled AS ONE. It is a vision for our diocese that encourages all to work together for the common good by sharing insights, best practices, and resources to create a unified and vibrant diocesan faith community. With your input in these listening sessions, we will be able to bring this vision of AS ONE to fruition.

El clero, los religiosos y los laicos juntos están llamados a escuchar las alegrías y esperanzas, los dolores y las angustias de los demás (cf. Gaudium et spes n. 1).
El “objetivo” de este caminar juntos no es crear una nueva visión o proyecto pastoral con objetivos. Más bien, el objetivo de nuestro caminar juntos es estar presentes unos con otros, escuchar y aprender unos con otros, y acercarnos más al Señor ya Su Iglesia.

Con mucha alegría y gratitud les doy la bienvenida a esta sesión de escucha del Sínodo. Esta sesión, junto con todas las sesiones de escucha que se están llevando a cabo en todo el mundo, son fundamentales para el Sínodo de 2023.
El Papa Francisco ha invitado a la Iglesia Católica universal a participar en el Sínodo de los Obispos que se lleva a cabo en Roma en octubre de 2023. Su Santidad está invitando al Pueblo de Dios a caminar juntos, en Comunión, Participación y Misión. Juntos como el Cuerpo de Cristo, nos escucharemos unos a otros, hablaremos, oraremos y discerniremos lo que el Espíritu nos está diciendo en estas reuniones. Hacemos esto como el Cuerpo de Cristo que viajamos juntos con el propósito de proclamar el Evangelio de Jesucristo. |
