MEssage from our Ministers

Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
You, son of man, I have appointed watchman for the house of Israel. . . . - Ezekiel 33:7

Oh, that today you would hear his voice: Harden not your hearts. . . . - Psalm 95:7-8

Owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another. . . . - Romans 13:8

For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the midst of them. - Matthew 18:20

America is known for its rugged individualism, and certainly independence is part of our character. As Christians, we are not only individuals, but also members of the Body of Christ. As such, we are in relationship with God and others.

Do we realize – make real – that relationship each day? Are we the watchpersons of our sisters and brothers, caring for and loving them?
Do we listen with our inmost being to God’s voice? Do we allow and welcome God’s voice to soften our hardened hearts and change us?
Do we really love one another or merely give lip service to the idea of loving others?
Do we really believe that God dwells in our midst, in our very being?

For today can we take one step forward on the path of acting on these truths?

AN ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I long for You in my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though You have already come, I embrace You and unite myself entirely to You; never permit me to be separated from You.

Sincerely,
Fr. Mark

PUBLIC CELEBRATION OF MASS - COVID-19

Parish Pandemic Procedures Update

During this time of pandemic, the Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is implementing all the safety procedures that are required, as well as many additional precautions that are recommended for the safety of our community members. These include cleaning, disinfecting, and the use of masks, thermometers, and proper social distancing.

We gather contact information of everyone who attends all Masses, just in case we have to call everyone who attended a particular Mass. This has happened two times in recent weeks. We had to notify everyone who attended two of our Masses here at Presentation, because we later learned that those two Masses had been attended by someone who later tested positive for coronavirus. In both cases, the person attending the Mass did not have any symptoms while attending the Mass, practiced social distancing while attending the Mass, and had conformed to the all established protocols of the parish. They assured us that they did not come in close contact with others at the Mass.

Nevertheless, a parish staff member notified each of those who had attended those Masses, just to inform them that they should be alert for symptoms. We also called them again two weeks later in an effort to make sure that our safety protocols at Mass were effective and that no one became infected by attending either of the Masses. One of these Masses was a Confirmation Mass celebrated on June 29 for our parish school families, and the other was our 5:00 p.m. Mass on July 5. We are providing this information so that everyone can make informed decisions about whether they wish to attend our Masses during the pandemic.

If anyone tests positive for coronavirus, please notify the parish right away (209-472-2150) so that we can notify those who were present at the Mass or service you attended. The information received will be handled in a confidential manner.

Stewardship ReflEctions

From our Stewardship Council

23rd Sunday of Ordinary Time
“You, son of man, I have appointed watchman for the house of Israel…”  -  Ezekiel 33:7

Many of us are generous with our gifts.  However, many of us are not generous in proportion to the gifts we have been given.  How often do we give at the minimum level required?  Remember, the Lord calls us to nurture and develop our gifts.  He calls us to be generous with all the gifts He has given us, especially the one that means the most to us.

Sharing the Gospel
Sometimes it's hard to give of your time, or your toys, or even to share your friends. Sometimes you want to be selfish and keep everything for yourself. This is not what Jesus did. He kept sharing God's love all the time. Jesus came to die on the cross and rise again. He came to take your sins away. Jesus gave up his own life so that your life could be saved. He did it for you. He shared so much that he even gave his life for us by dying on the cross. Jesus wants us to share like he did, to give of ourselves even when we want to be selfish.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, give me strength to share your love.

Something to Draw
Draw a picture of yourself sharing in way that is hard for you.

Mission for the Week
Give of your time this week to help someone who needs it.

Spiritual Communion
Even if one cannot sacramentally receive the Eucharist, everyone should be aware of the practice of making a spiritual communion. The following is a daily prayer for Spiritual Communion:

O my Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament.
I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace you as if you were already there and
unite myself wholly to you.
Never permit me to be separated from you.
Amen.

St. Teresa of Kolkata

1910-1997
Feast Day: September 7th

Raised in a deeply Catholic family in Albania, Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu joined the Sisters of Loreto in 1928 and took the name Teresa. The community sent her to Kolkata, India, where she taught children for two decades. In 1946 Teresa heard God's call to quench the thirst of Jesus by caring for the poorest  of the  poor. She left the Sisters of Loreto to rescue the sick and  destitute in the slums of Kolkata -- one at a time. Many volunteers soon joined her and she formed  them  into her religious order, the Missionaries of Charity. Teresa's manifest goodness and her unique media savvy attracted global attention, drawing many people to God. Many regard her as the greatest Catholic evangelist of the 20th century. She was beatified in 2003 and canonized in 2016.

Santa Teresa de Calcuta
1910-1997

Prayer to Begin a School Year/Semester
Blessed are you, Lord God,
Creator of body and mind and heart; you have sent the Spirit of wisdom and knowledge to guide your people in all their ways. At the beginning of this new school year (or semester/term) we implore your mercy: bless the students, teachers, and staff, that together we may grow in faith, hope, and love as we learn from you and each other how to follow your Son Jesus. Expand the horizons of our minds, that we may grow in wisdom, understanding, and knowledge; deepen our commitment to seek the truth of your ways; and enliven our faith to reach out to those in need. Glory and praise to you, Lord God, in the Church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever.
R/. Amen
