MEssage from our Ministers

Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time
He shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah . - Isaiah 22:21

. . . . in the presence of the angels I will sing your praise; I will worship at your holy temple. - Psalm 138:1-2

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! - Romans 11:33

But who do you say that I am? -  Matthew 16:15

Jesus asks his disciples who people say “the Son of Man is.” Then he further asks, “But who do you say that I am?” He is interested in their personal response. Peter answers, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Who do we say that Jesus is? And conversely, who does Jesus say we are? Perhaps take some time today to be still and listen to Jesus. Speak with him from your heart and enter more fully into relationship with him, the One who Is. (cf Exodus 3:14: “I am he who is.”)

And then, our hearts can be broken open to experience the “depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God!” (Romans 11:33)

AN ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I long for You in my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though You have already come, I embrace You and unite myself entirely to You; never permit me to be separated from You.

Sincerely,
Fr. Mark

PUBLIC CELEBRATION OF MASS - COVID-19

Parish Pandemic Procedures Update

During this time of pandemic, the Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is implementing all the safety procedures that are required, as well as many additional precautions that are recommended for the safety of our community members. These include cleaning, disinfecting, and the use of masks, thermometers, and proper social distancing.

We gather contact information of everyone who attends all Masses, just in case we have to call everyone who attended a particular Mass. This has happened two times in recent weeks. We had to notify everyone who attended two of our Masses here at Presentation, because we later learned that those two Masses had been attended by someone who later tested positive for coronavirus. In both cases, the person attending the Mass did not have any symptoms while attending the Mass, practiced social distancing while attending the Mass, and had conformed to the all established protocols of the parish. They assured us that they did not come in close contact with others at the Mass.

Nevertheless, a parish staff member notified each of those who had attended those Masses, just to inform them that they should be alert for symptoms. We also called them again two weeks later in an effort to make sure that our safety protocols at Mass were effective and that no one became infected by attending either of the Masses. One of these Masses was a Confirmation Mass celebrated on June 29 for our parish school families, and the other was our 5:00 p.m. Mass on July 5. We are providing this information so that everyone can make informed decisions about whether they wish to attend our Masses during the pandemic.

If anyone tests positive for coronavirus, please notify the parish right away (209-472-2150) so that we can notify those who were present at the Mass or service you attended. The information received will be handled in a confidential manner.

Stewardship ReflEctions

From our Stewardship Council

21st Sunday of Ordinary Time
“Or who has given the Lord anything that he may be repaid?”  -  Romans 11:35

St. Paul reminds us of a central fact of stewardship.  We cannot give the Lord anything - God already owns it all.  God made everything.  All we can do is return a portion of God’s many gifts back to Him.  Sincere gratitude for our gifts opens our hearts to joyful generosity!  Through your generous sharing, you just may be the answer to someone’s prayer.

Sharing the Gospel
God had sent great prophets to his people. Jeremiah, Elijah, and John the Baptist were faithful to God. They told God's people to love each other. But God's people would not listen. That is why God sent his Son Jesus to be your Savior. With Jesus' help, you can turn back to God. Because of Jesus, you can love others. Because of Jesus, you can look forward to heaven.

Prayer
God, I thank you for sending your Son, Jesus to be my Savior.

Something to Draw
Draw a picture of Jesus in heaven, holding out his hand to you.

Mission for the Week
Tell God you are sorry for your sins. Ask God to help you follow Jesus' example.

Spiritual Communion
Even if one cannot sacramentally receive the Eucharist, everyone should be aware of the practice of making a spiritual communion. The following is a daily prayer for Spiritual Communion:

O my Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament.
I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace you as if you were already there and
unite myself wholly to you.
Never permit me to be separated from you.
Amen.

St. Joseph Calasanz

1556-1648
Feast Day: August 25th

This Spaniard studied law at the University of Lerida and was ordained a priest in 1583, despite his father’s hope that he would be a soldier. He became vicar general of a Spanish diocese, but in 1592 left for Rome, where he joined the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine and worked with neglected children. In 1597 he established the first free school in Rome with three other priests. This work led him to found the Clerks Regular of the Religious (or Pious) Schools, known as Piarists. He overcame internal and external opposition and served as superior general of the order. He was canonized in 1767, and in 1948 Pope Pius XII named him the patron saint of Christian schools. He is also a patron of students.

San Jose de Calasanz
1556-1648

Coming Soon: Brand New Church Bulletin!!

Starting the weekend of September 6th, Church of the Presentation will have a BRAND NEW Church Bulletin, printed by LPi.  LPi offers the latest technology in digital, print and communication products, as well as engagement tools that will allow us to grow a vibrant faith community. Gina Shaughnessy, our parish representative from LPi, is currently working on the business ads for the back cover.  We hope that parishioners will consider advertising on the bulletin, since the revenue from the ads, is what will make the bulletin possible, at no cost to the parish.  It’s a terrific way to get your name in front of the parish families, business owners, and visitors at the church.

Advertisements can be purchased for a business, for a family, or a sponsorship ad for a non-profit organization.  This is a great way for businesses to promote what they do, while at the same time connecting with the community, and benefitting the church at the same time.

Please do give these ideas some thought.  We need and appreciate your help!

If you are interested in participating, or would like more information, you can either call Gina at (916) 200-8979, or email her at GShaughnessy@4LPi.com.

Thank you for your consideration and support!

Prayer to Begin a School Year/Semester
Blessed are you, Lord God,
Creator of body and mind and heart; you have sent the Spirit of wisdom and knowledge to guide your people in all their ways. At the beginning of this new school year (or semester/term) we implore your mercy: bless the students, teachers, and staff, that together we may grow in faith, hope, and love as we learn from you and each other how to follow your Son Jesus. Expand the horizons of our minds, that we may grow in wisdom, understanding, and knowledge; deepen our commitment to seek the truth of your ways; and enliven our faith to reach out to those in need. Glory and praise to you, Lord God, in the Church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever.
R/. Amen
