MEssage from our Ministers

Fourth Sunday of Easter
. . . urged them to remain faithful to the grace of God. - Acts 13:43

Know that the Lord is God; he made us, his we are; his people, the flock he tends. - Psalm 100:3

For the Lamb who is in the center of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to springs of life-giving water. . . . - Revelation 7:17

My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. - John 10:27

We belong to God.

Jesus knows us. Do we know Jesus?

. . . [T]he Lamb is in the center of the throne. . . . Is the Lamb in the center of our lives?

Do we “remain faithful to the grace of God”? Do we listen for and to God’s voice? Do we follow the Shepherd?

If we are “faithful to the grace of God,” if God is the center of our lives, if we do indeed hear and follow the Shepherd, then our relationship with God is important in our lives. If we are not faithful to God’s grace, if God is not the center of our lives, if we do not listen to and follow the Shepherd, then, it seems, God is not so important in our lives.

As we ponder the facets of our relationship with God, let us carve out time to speak with God honestly and to ask for the grace to be faithful, to listen, and to follow.

Pertenecemos a Dios.

Jesús nos conoce. ¿Conocemos a Jesús?

Gospel Meditation

MAY 13 IS THE FEAST OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA

Dear Parishioners,

In today’s Gospel, the Good Shepherd reminds us that he gave his life for his sheep: “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish.”  We can be confident that as long as we remain in his flock, we will never be lost. We need not fear even in the valley of death, and we can enjoy the green pastures and the table that the Lord sets before us (Psalm 23).  However, we can also participate in his task of saving “other sheep” who are lost and in danger of the wolf who “snatches and scatters them.” (John 10: 12,16)

This Friday is the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima, the greatest apparition of modern times. She appeared to three shepherd children in 1917 to offer peace and reassurance that we will be saved if we repent, pray the rosary, and receive her Son in Holy Communion, especially on the First Saturdays. She warned the world about Russia, which was an amazing prediction because it was not until October of that year that the Communist Revolution began. She also predicted World War II. She appeared to the children on the 13th of each month, each time predicting that in October there would be a great miracle. The great miracle of the sun, seen by a crowd of 70,000, was the only great miracle ever announced beforehand, with the exception of the Resurrection of Jesus, which he himself had predicted!

Everyone is welcome to attend a Bible Study class, which I will offer this Friday, May 13, in which I will show that the Bible itself contains predictions of the events of Fatima, including the miracle of the sun: “the light of the sun broke forth and the lowly were exalted.” (Esther 11/A7-10) Our Catholic Bible has a longer version of the Book of Esther with many details which correlate in an amazing way with what happened at Fatima. It is a story of Esther, a lowly Jewish woman who becomes queen and is able therefore to intercede for the Jewish people who were in danger of a genocide “on the 13th day of the month.” The word “Esther” means “star,” and according to Lucia, Our Lady of Fatima always appeared with a small yellow star near her feet. Please join us at 7:00 PM on Friday, May 13, 2022 to hear more about the amazing correlations, which are found in the details of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima and in the Old Testament Book of Esther!

MEDITACIÓN EVANGÉLICO

EL 13 DE MAYO ES LA FIESTA DE NUESTRA SEÑORA DE FÁTIMA

Estimados feligreses,

Stewardship ReflEctions

From our Stewardship Council

4th Sunday of Easter
“The disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.” - Acts 13:52

The disciples heard Our Lord’s call and were able to spread the Gospel message with strength and vitality. We, too, can experience that same joy if we make room for the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts. When we use our gifts in the way that God intends, He fills us with supernatural joy, a joy that others notice and are attracted to!

Spiritual Communion
Even if one cannot sacramentally receive the Eucharist, everyone should be aware of the practice of making a spiritual communion. The following is a daily prayer for Spiritual Communion:

O my Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament.
I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace you as if you were already there and
unite myself wholly to you.
Never permit me to be separated from you.
Amen.

St. Damien de Veuster of Moloka’I

January 3, 1840 – April 15, 1889
Feast Day: May 10

Born in Tremelo, Belgium, Joseph de Veuster left school at 13 to work on the family farm. Six years later he joined the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, taking the name Damien. He volunteered for a mission to the Hawaiian Islands and was ordained in Honolulu in 1864. He served on the island of Hawaii for eight years, then volunteered in 1873 to work at the leprosy colony on Moloka'i (leprosy is now called Hansen’s disease). Father Damien was a priest, doctor, and counselor to 800 patients before he contracted the disease in 1884. He stayed on Moloka’i, ministering until a month before his death. Considered a model and martyr of charity, he was canonized in 2009.

“His missionary activity, which gave him such joy, reached its peak in charity. Not without fear and repugnance, he chose to go to the Island of Molokai to serve the lepers who lived there, abandoned by all. Thus, he was exposed to the disease from which they suffered. . . . He invites us to open our eyes to the forms of leprosy that disfigure the humanity of our brethren and still today call for the charity of our presence as servants, beyond that of our generosity.” —Pope Benedict XVI, October 11, 2009

Prayer for our School
Blessed are you, Lord God,
Creator of body and mind and heart; you have sent the Spirit of wisdom and knowledge to guide your people in all their ways. At the beginning of this new school year (or semester/term) we implore your mercy: bless the students, teachers, and staff, that together we may grow in faith, hope, and love as we learn from you and each other how to follow your Son Jesus. Expand the horizons of our minds, that we may grow in wisdom, understanding, and knowledge; deepen our commitment to seek the truth of your ways; and enliven our faith to reach out to those in need. Glory and praise to you, Lord God, in the Church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever.
R/. Amen

“Our Lady showed us a great sea of fire which seemed to be under the earth. Plunged in this fire were demons and souls in human form.... ”
(Lúcia dos Santos, Visionary of Fátima)

The terrifying and horrific vision of hell, which the Shepherd Children witnessed, “lasted but an instant.” Lúcia tells us: “We looked up at Our Lady, who said to us, so kindly and so sadly: ‘You have seen hell where the souls of poor sinners go. When you pray the Rosary, say after each mystery: O my Jesus, forgive us, save us from the fire of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those who are most in need.’”

Our Lady instructed the Little Shepherds: “Sacrifice yourselves for sinners, and say many times, especially whenever you make some sacrifice: ‘O Jesus, it is for love of You, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.’”
