MEssage from our Ministers

The Ascension of the Lord
. . . you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses . . . to the ends of the [E]arth. - Acts 1:8

God reigns over the nations. . . . - Psalm 47:9

. . . a Spirit of wisdom and revelation resulting in knowledge of him. - Ephesians 1:17

. . . repentance, for the forgiveness of sins, would be preached in his name. . . . - Luke 24:47

We received the Holy Spirit in Baptism and the fullness of the Spirit in Confirmation. The Holy Spirit is with us, interceding for us.

Alone we can do nothing, but with the power of the Holy Spirit, we can be Christ’s “witnesses to the ends of the [E]arth.” How exciting that Jesus trusts us to witness to him. Do we take him up on it? Do we witness to Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit or are we content to go through life on our own terms?

In order to witness, we need to be aware and knowledgeable. Does our knowledge, when full grown, lead to love? Does it spill over into our very lives so we can indeed be “witnesses . . . to the ends of the [E]arth”?

La Ascención del Señor

. . Hasta el final de la Tierra"?

FR. MARK'S REFLECTIONS AND ARTICLES / REFLEXIONES Y ARTÍCULOS DEL P. MARK
Gospel Meditation

“He was taken from their sight. . . ”

Dear Parishioners,

Today we celebrate the Ascension of Jesus. For forty days the Risen Lord Jesus “presented himself alive to them by many proofs after he had suffered.” Then, “as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight.” The disciples would no longer see him, but were consoled because Jesus had said: “I will be with you always, until the end of the world.” We know that Jesus continues to live in the Catholic Church, which is his Body, which continues his work on Earth. He works especially through his priests who give us his blessings, his forgiveness, and his very Body and Blood in the Eucharist.

We are approaching the day when Fr. Matthew will be “taken from our sight” so that he can continue his priestly ministry as pastor of St. Mary’s Parish in Oakdale. We will no longer be able to see him or enjoy his wit and wisdom. Jesus ministered to us through him and he will continue to do so in every parish and through every priest.

The Ascension of Jesus means that Jesus is visibly absent but invisibly present in His Mystical Body the Church. Wherever we are, we are one family, having the same Father as Jesus.

In the month of May, we also recall that Mary is our mother who always embraces the Body of Christ and holds us close to her Immaculate Heart. When he was young, Fr. Matthew was inspired by two saints who had a great devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary: St. Maximilian Kolbe and St. Damian of Molokai. Both of these priests sacrificed themselves for the sake of souls. Thank you, Fr. Matthew, for answering the call and following in their footsteps! May Our Lady hold you close and continue to form you in the image of Christ her Son!

Fr. Mark

MEDITACIÓN EVANGÉLICO

“Lo Ocultó a sus Ojos. . . ”

Estimados feligreses,

Ascension of the Lord

“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” - Revelations 22:13

This is a reminder of how we should live our lives 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – putting God first in all that we do. Not only when I am at Mass and parish activities, but when I am in the world, at work or at school. Living gratefully and generously is an intentional lifestyle. Every decision you make either moves you closer to God or farther away. Choose wisely!

¡Escoja sabiamente!

Sharing the Gospel
The lives of the disciples had been changed forever. Once Jesus went back to heaven, it would be up to them to tell everybody what they knew about Jesus. They had seen the power of Jesus. They looked forward to receiving that same kind of power from God. The disciples had a big job ahead of them, but with God's help they knew they could do anything.

Dear God, thank you for all the people who have helped me learn about Jesus.

Spiritual Communion
Even if one cannot sacramentally receive the Eucharist, everyone should be aware of the practice of making a spiritual communion. The following is a daily prayer for Spiritual Communion:

O my Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament.
I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace you as if you were already there and
unite myself wholly to you.
Never permit me to be separated from you.
Amen.

Sts. Marcellinus & Peter

Circa 304

Feast Day: June 2

Marcellinus was a priest and Peter an exorcist in Rome’s Christian community. They were arrested and imprisoned during the persecution by Emperor Diocletian. In prison, they converted many people, including their jailer and his family. They were condemned to death and beheaded, supposedly in secret, in a nearby wood. But their executioner disclosed the deaths after his conversion. Pope St. Damasus I wrote an epitaph for their tomb, over which Emperor Constantine later built a church in which he buried his mother. This pope also reported that he learned the details of their martyrdom from the executioner himself. Marcellinus and Peter are among the saints' names in the Roman Canon of the Mass.

Santos Marcelino y Pedro
Cerca 304

We are sad to know that Fr. Matthew has been reassigned to serve as the Pastor of St. Mary's of the Annunciation, in Oakdale, CA. His time at Presentation was short, though we are grateful for his heartfelt and uplifting sermons, countless prayers, and the many ways that he actively engaged in our parish community—a short joke, conversations about sports, visiting ministries, and the many times he spontaneously visited our Parish School to check in with the staff and students, never missing an opportunity to play a game of kickball or basketball.

Fr. Matthew will truly be missed! Let us keep him in our prayers as he shepherds the flock in Oakdale. “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. . . .” --2 Corinthians 13:13. Let us pray: for his strength to continue to reach out to all of God's people in compassion, that the fruits of the Holy Spirit continue to guide him on his journey, and for growth in his relationship with God. Though he is being called to journey on a path different from ours, we know that we travel together to the Lord.

Instead of gifts, Fr. Matthew asks that you donate in his name to the 2022 Seminarian Endowment Challenge!

At the beginning of this new school year (or semester/term) we implore your mercy: bless the students, teachers, and staff, that together we may grow in faith, hope, and love as we learn from you and each other how to follow your Son Jesus. Expand the horizons of our minds, that we may grow in wisdom, understanding, and knowledge; deepen our commitment to seek the truth of your ways; and enliven our faith to reach out to those in need. Glory and praise to you, Lord God, in the Church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever.
R/. Amen

“Our Lady showed us a great sea of fire which seemed to be under the earth. Plunged in this fire were demons and souls in human form.... ”
(Lúcia dos Santos, Visionary of Fátima)

The terrifying and horrific vision of hell, which the Shepherd Children witnessed, “lasted but an instant.” Lúcia tells us: “We looked up at Our Lady, who said to us, so kindly and so sadly: ‘You have seen hell where the souls of poor sinners go. When you pray the Rosary, say after each mystery: O my Jesus, forgive us, save us from the fire of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those who are most in need.’”

Our Lady instructed the Little Shepherds: “Sacrifice yourselves for sinners, and say many times, especially whenever you make some sacrifice: ‘O Jesus, it is for love of You, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.’”
