MEssage from our Ministers

Sixth Sunday of Easter
With one accord, the crowds paid attention to what was said by Philip when they heard it and saw the signs he was doing
- Acts of the Apostles 8:6

Say to God, “How tremendous are your deeds!” - Psalm 66:3

For Christ also suffered . . . that he might lead you to God. - 1 Peter 3:18

. . . to be with you always. . . . will be in you. . . . I will come to you. . . . I am in my Father and you are in me and I in you.” – John 15:16-18, 20

If we make time to see and hear what is around us, “the signs” of God’s presence, we will behold the awesome, amazing deeds God does, but we must pay attention, open our minds, hearts, ears, and eyes to what is. That means seeing God not only in the extraordinary, but also in the ordinary.

Love, kindness, beauty, creation, challenge, humor, disappointment, suffering, death, the coronavirus – everything – can lead us to God. As St. Ignatius of Loyola notes: “The goal of our life is to live with God forever. God, who loves us, gave us life. Our own response of love allows God’s life to flow into us without limit. All the things in this world are gifts of God, presented to us so that we can know God more easily and make a return of love more readily. . . .For everything has the potential of calling forth in us a deeper response to our life in God” (First Principle and Foundation, Spiritual Exercises).

Let us respond each day to Jesus who so desires that we all may be one (John 17:21). Let us ask God to open our hearts to find God in all things.

(Primer Principio y Fundamento, Ejercicios Espirituales).

AN ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I long for You in my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though You have already come, I embrace You and unite myself entirely to You; never permit me to be separated from You.

Sincerely,
Fr. Mark

Stewardship ReflEctions

From our Stewardship Council

6th SUNDAY of EASTER
“For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that be God’s will, than for doing evil.”  1 PETER 3:17

The old line says “if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.”  Many of us are diligent in our planning and making sure things are progressing smoothly.  Then disaster strikes, we don’t get the result that was intended or an unforeseen problem arises.  Many times we may respond negatively and ask, “Why me?  I did everything right!”  Here’s the thing – adversity humbles us and reminds us of our dependence on God and not on our own self-reliance.  Rest assured, God has a better plan in store for you.

ACT OF LOVE

O my God,

I love Thee above all things with my whole heart and soul,
because Thou art all good and worthy of all love.
I love my neighbor as myself for love of Thee.
I forgive all who have injured me,
and I ask pardon for all whom I have injured.

Amen
Spiritual Communion
Even if one cannot sacramentally receive the Eucharist, everyone should be aware of the practice of making a spiritual communion. The following is a daily prayer for Spiritual Communion:

O my Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament.
I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace you as if you were already there and
unite myself wholly to you.
Never permit me to be separated from you.
Amen.

saINT OF THE wEEK

St. Rita of Cascia

c. 1381 – 1457
Feast Day: May 22

Born near Spoleto, Italy, Rita wanted to be a nun but married in deference to her parents. For nearly 20 years, she endured her profligate husband’s mistreatment. Following his violent death, she was admitted after three refusals to an Augustinian convent at Cascia, where she spent the next 40 years. She is remembered for her devoted care of sick nuns and for a deep forehead wound that lasted 15 years, caused she said by a thorn from Christ’s crown of thorns. She has a large popular following, and is invoked in Italy for difficult situations.
