MEssage from our Ministers

Third Sunday of Easter
Picture
But God raised him up, releasing him from the throes of death,
because it was impossible for him to be held by it. – Acts of the Apostles 2:24

O Lord, my allotted portion and my cup,
you it is who hold fast my lot. – Psalm 16:5

He was known before the foundation of the world but revealed in the final time for you, who through him believe in God who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. – 1 Peter 1:20-21

But we were hoping that he would be the one to redeem Israel. . . . Luke 24:21

Death does not hold us; God does. How do we come to know this God who raised Jesus from the dead? Peter gives us an insight: “. . . your faith and hope are in God.” It is not so much believing that something will or will not happen. It is not so much hoping that something will or will not happen. It is not so much believing and hoping that. It is believing and hoping in God.

So how do we put that faith and hope into action? How do we move from believing and hoping that to believing and hoping in God? How does our relationship with Jesus become more real?

We do not know someone all at once. It takes time and the desire to get to know a person. Let us just sit in the presence of God, the Divine, the Sacred. Let us spend some time reflecting on the scripture readings so we can know this Jesus who was raised from the dead.

When we begin to know Jesus, to have a real relationship with him, then like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, “our hearts will indeed burn within us while he [speaks] to us on the way and [opens] the scriptures to us” (Luke 24:32).

AN ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I long for You in my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though You have already come, I embrace You and unite myself entirely to You; never permit me to be separated from You.

Sincerely,
Fr. Mark

Stewardship ReflEctions

From our Stewardship Council

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY
“Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us on the road, while He opened to us the scriptures?”   LUKE 24:32

How often do we take the time to discern what Jesus wants from us?  Are our prayers always petitions, asking Jesus to do things for us?  If so, that’s a one-sided relationship.  Living our faith means developing a personal relationship with Jesus.  Just like any friendship, there is give and take, each side listening to each other and helping each other out.  Take time in silence to listen to what Jesus is asking of you.
Children's PRayer

From our Minister of religious Education

Lord, as we walk down the journey of life,
we ask that you would be our constant companion,
particularly on those days when we are disheartened
or when we have strayed off of your path.

When we are downcast,
we ask that you lift our spirits.
When we are confused,
we ask that you enlighten our minds.
When we are disappointed,
we ask that you give us hope.

You, Lord, have blessed us with your gospel.
Open our minds and hearts to receive your word,
and send your Holy Spirit to give us understanding.
May your teaching take root in our lives
and guide us in your ways.

While we have faith in you, Lord,
we also have our moments of doubt.
We ask that you would deepen our faith,
so that rededicated to you,
we would give bolder witness,
and freely and gladly give generous service.

You gently ask us to invite you into our hearts and homes.
With a spirit of welcome and humility,
we invite you to dwell with us always.
We offer our praise and thanks for the many ways that you feed us
and provide for our many needs.

Keep us closely connected to our brothers and sisters in faith.
Help us to see others with the eyes of love.
Fill us with your compassion.
May we work tirelessly to foster relationships in our community
built on the foundations of truth, mutual respect, cooperation, and trust.
Amen.
Spiritual Communion
Even if one cannot sacramentally receive the Eucharist, everyone should be aware of the practice of making a spiritual communion. The following is a daily prayer for Spiritual Communion:

O my Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament.
I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace you as if you were already there and
unite myself wholly to you.
Never permit me to be separated from you.
Amen.

saINT OF THE wEEK

St. CAtherine of Siena

1347-1380
FEAST DAY: April 29

Catherine was the 24th of 25 children of a Sienese dyer. She was born a the time of the black-death. Her mystical experiences and raptures began at age 6. She refused to marry, and about 1367 joined the Third Order of St. Dominic. She attracted a like-minded group in Siena for prayer and good works and devoted her last five years to church unity and ending the scandal of rival papacies. Though she experienced the pain of the stigmata, it became visible only after her death at 33. And, in an odd division of relics, her body is in a Roman church, while her head is in a Sienese church. Named a doctor of the church in 1970, Catherine is a patron saint of Europe and Italy, and the patron of fire prevention, nurses and nursing.

“Take as your example your heavenly patroness, St Catherine, a humble and fearless Dominican tertiary who gave herself unsparingly for the Church. For everyone may this great saint be not only a special protectress but a model to follow on the path of holiness.” —St. John Paul II, October 10, 1999

PATRON SAINT OF FIRE PREVENTION, NURSES, and NURSING
St. Catherine of Siena is known for her concern for and healing of the sick.

Catherine Benincasa was born during the time that the black-death raged in Europe and Siena was badly ravaged by this. Around 1366, Catherine experienced a “Mystical Marriage” with Jesus. She said, Jesus told her to leave her solitary life, return to her family, and enter the public life of the world. So Catherine began to tend the sick and the poor, especially those afflicted with the most repulsive diseases, where she took care of them in hospitals or homes.

She now rejoined her family and began to labor for the conversion of sinners. Though always suffering terrible physical pain, living for long intervals on practically no food, except the Blessed Sacrament. Not long after, Catherine began to dedicate her life to working to heal another wound: the wound that stemmed from broken charity — a split in the Catholic Church which had developed into schism with the presence of more than one pope.

Novena Prayer to Saint Catherine of Siena, OPO marvelous wonder of the Church, seraphic virgin, Saint Catherine, because of your extraordinary virtue and enormous good which you accomplished for the Church and society, you are acclaimed and blessed by all people. Turn your kind face on me, who, with confidence in your powerful help, call upon you with the fervor of warmth and affection that you to obtain, by your prayers, the favors I so ardently desire.

(Make your request)

You, who were a victim of charity, who in order to benefit your neighbor obtained from God the most stupendous miracles and became the joy and the hope of all, you cannot help but hear the prayers of those who fly to your heart—that heart which you received from the Divine Redeemer in a celestial ecstasy.

O seraphic virgin show once again proof of your power and of your flaming charity, so that your name will be ever blessed and exalted; grant that we, having experienced your most efficacious intercession here on earth, may come one day to thank you in heaven and enjoy eternal happiness with you.

AMEN
