MEssage from our Ministers2nd Sunday of Lent
Take your son Isaac, your only one, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah. There you shall offer him up as a holocaust. . . . - Genesis 22:2
Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of his faithful ones. . . . My vows to the Lord I will pay in the presence of all [God’s] people. . . . - Psalm 116:15, 18 If God is for us, who can be against us? - Romans 8:30 Then a cloud came, casting a shadow over them. . . . - Mark 9:7 Sometimes we focus on the negative and fail to see the deeper realities of a situation. At first glance, we may see only the seemingly cruel request to give up Isaac. We may see only death and not the life that issues forth from going through death. We may focus on the shadows and no longer remember the warmth and light of the sun. As our Lenten journey continues, let us pray for one another that we will come to the place of deep relationship with our good and loving God. Let us ask God for the grace to journey through the darkness, disappointments, and deaths into the dazzling brightness of God’s glory.
AN ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION My Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I long for You in my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though You have already come, I embrace You and unite myself entirely to You; never permit me to be separated from You. Sincerely, Fr. Mark PUBLIC CELEBRATION OF MASS - COVID-19

2nd Sunday of Lent
Beloved Parishioners, On the second Sunday of Lent we always hear the Gospel Reading about the Transfiguration of Jesus on Mount Tabor. (Mark 9:2-10) This time of Lent is long and difficult. We need to be strengthened and encouraged in order to endure these forty days of prayer and penance. We are like the apostles who were discouraged when Jesus announced that he was leading them up to Jerusalem and die on Mount Calvary. (Mark 8:31-38). They received encouragement when Jesus led them up Mount Tabor where suddenly the divinity of Jesus shone out of him like the blinding light of the sun. God the Father spoke out of a heavenly cloud and said: “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him." (Mark 9:7) The vision and the voice convinced them that Jesus was truly the Son of God, and that they should listen to him. They heard clearly that Jesus was the beloved son. Probably they remembered the ancient story about the “beloved son” of Abraham, who was also going to be sacrificed. There was never a son more beloved than Isaac, the Son of Abraham. Abraham had to wait until he was an old man to finally have the son who had been promised to him by God. Then God spoke those strange words to him: “Take your son Isaac, your only one, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah. There you shall offer him up as a holocaust on a height that I will point out to you." (Genesis 22:2) As they went up the hill, the son carried the wood for burning the sacrifice, and he asked his father: “Where is the sheep for the burnt offering?” Abraham gave this answer: “God will provide himself a victim for a holocaust, my son.” This response could have several meanings. It is a strange grammatical construction in the Hebrew language. It could mean that “GOD HIMSELF will provide a victim,” or it could mean that “God will PROVIDE FOR HIMSELF a victim,” or it could mean that “God will provide HIMSELF AS a victim.” All three meanings of this strange prophecy were fulfilled. It was fulfilled when they reached the top of the hill and Abraham was about to sacrifice his son when suddenly God stopped him and provided the sheep with its horns caught in a bush nearby. The prophecy was fulfilled in a complete way nearly two thousand years later when Jesus carried the wood of the Cross up that very same hill. He was the lamb of sacrifice provided by God. And he was God providing himself as a sacrifice. Jesus went all the way to the top of Mount Calvary, and no one prevented the Father from offering his own beloved Son as a sacrifice. Jesus freely offered himself. He had been prepared for this moment by his Father who told him twice that he was the “beloved Son": once at his baptism and again on Mount tabor. God was preparing his Son for his life’s mission; his vocation offer himself in sacrifice. God the Father wants to prepare each one of us, his other “beloved sons and daughters” to offer ourselves. The Father told us to “listen to him.” What did Jesus say that we are supposed to hear? In the previous chapter we see read that Jesus’ previous words were: “The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and rise after three days… Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me…” This is the meaning of Lent. We follow the lamb wherever he goes. We listen to him. We offer ourselves to a life of loving sacrifice in order to save sinners. We consume the Lamb of God in order to be more like him. We trust that God will call us his beloved children and that he will provide. Fr. Padre Mark PrayerspRAYER FOR THE sICK

Feast Day: March 4 Born in Krakow, Casimir was the son of Casimir IV, king of Poland and grand duke of Lithuania, and Elizabeth of Austria. From a young age, he was concerned with the integrity and justice of his father’s rule. He worked to ensure the fair treatment and aid of the poor and less fortunate. He was called the Patron of the Poor because of his love for others and charitable works. Casimir was known to be a humble and approachable man, traits that were not always synonymous with rulers at the time. Known for his refusal to take up arms, personal piety, generosity to the poor and devotion to the Blessed Mother, he rejected the idea of marrying in favor of voluntary chastity. During a visit to Lithuania, he fell ill, died from tuberculosis at the age of 25 and was buried in the cathedral in Vilnius. Canonized in 1521, he is the patron of Poland and Lithuania.
