MEssage from our Ministers

4th Sunday of Advent
I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me. - 2 Samuel 7:14

I have made a covenant with my chosen one. . . .  - Psalm 89:4

. . . made known to all nations to bring about the obedience of faith. . . . - Romans 16:26

Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.
- Luke 1:38

God chooses to dwell with us, to be in relationship with humanity, to show kindness to each one of us. In this last week of Advent, let us make time to savor God’s covenantal relationship with us.

Let us humble ourselves to acknowledge that we are the servants of the Lord. Let us ask for the grace to deepen our faith and to do God’s will each day.

"Yo seré para él padre y él será para mí hijo"
II Samuel, 7 - Bíblia Católica Online

"«Una alianza pacté con mi elegido"
Salmos, 89 - Bíblia Católica Online

AN ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I long for You in my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though You have already come, I embrace You and unite myself entirely to You; never permit me to be separated from You.

Sincerely,
Fr. Mark

FR. MARK'S REFLECTIONS AND ARTICLES / REFLEXIONES Y ARTÍCULOS DEL P. MARK
4th Sunday of Advent

Dear parish family, Christ is truly born anew and gives us his Body which nourishes and unites us as a church, Pope Francis has declared that this year will be dedicated to St. Joseph. He was there in the manger when his spouse first gave the Body of Christ to the world. St. Joseph can help us in this new year with our work of giving the Body of Christ to the people of Northwest Stockton, May the light of Christ shine on our dark world at Christmastide. May Jesus, Mary, and Joseph bless us, everyone!

Sincerely,
Fr. Mark

(Juan 8:12)

Stewardship ReflEctions

From our Stewardship Council

Fourth Sunday of Advent

“Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!” – Luke 1:28

After Jesus, we look to Mary as an ideal steward.  Her entire life was lived in obedience to God’s call.  Mary teaches us to live with joy for all we have been given.  Just as the moon reflects the light of the sun, Mary reflects the light of Christ.  Like Mary, we are called to reflect Christ’s light to the world through our gratitude and generosity.

Sharing the Gospel
With God's helping hands, you can do unbelievable things. You can write books. You can be the President. You can clean up your bedroom. You can climb monkey bars. You can give food and drink to the hungry. When you are feeling weak, sit down and pray. Ask God to help you. Nothing is impossible for him. Just like Mary, you have to believe that you can do anything with God's help.

Prayer
Lord, give me wisdom to ask you for your help.

Something to Draw
Draw the angel telling Mary that she would have the baby Jesus.

Mission for the Week
I will not give up on difficult jobs. I will pray and try again.

Spiritual Communion
Even if one cannot sacramentally receive the Eucharist, everyone should be aware of the practice of making a spiritual communion. The following is a daily prayer for Spiritual Communion:

O my Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament.
I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace you as if you were already there and
unite myself wholly to you.
Never permit me to be separated from you.
Amen.

saINT OF THE wEEK

St. Stephen, first martyr

Dates: First Century
Feast Day: December 26
Christianity’s first martyr was probably a Greek Jew. He was among the first seven deacons chosen to serve the Hellenist Christian community in Jerusalem. But the wonders he worked rattled local Jewish leaders. Witnesses at his trial before the Sanhedrin gave false testimony, and Stephen defended himself with a stirring speech recalling the long history of Israel’s relationship with God and calling the Jews “stiff-necked people” who “always oppose the Holy Spirit.”

“Just as Jesus on the Cross entrusted himself to the Father without reserve and pardoned those who killed him, at the moment of his death St Stephen prayed: “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit”; and further: “Lord, do not hold this sin against them” (cf. Acts 7: 59-60). Stephen was a genuine disciple of Jesus and imitated him perfectly. With Stephen began that long series of martyrs who sealed their faith by offering their lives, proclaiming with their heroic witness that God became man to open the Kingdom of Heaven to humankind.” — Pope Benedict XVI, Angelus, December 26, 2005

San Esteban, Protomártir
Siglo 1

Prayer to Begin a School Year/Semester
Blessed are you, Lord God,
Creator of body and mind and heart; you have sent the Spirit of wisdom and knowledge to guide your people in all their ways. At the beginning of this new school year (or semester/term) we implore your mercy: bless the students, teachers, and staff, that together we may grow in faith, hope, and love as we learn from you and each other how to follow your Son Jesus. Expand the horizons of our minds, that we may grow in wisdom, understanding, and knowledge; deepen our commitment to seek the truth of your ways; and enliven our faith to reach out to those in need. Glory and praise to you, Lord God, in the Church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever.
R/. Amen

“Our Lady showed us a great sea of fire which seemed to be under the earth. Plunged in this fire were demons and souls in human form.... ”
(Lúcia dos Santos, Visionary of Fátima)

The terrifying and horrific vision of hell, which the Shepherd Children witnessed, “lasted but an instant.” Lúcia tells us: “We looked up at Our Lady, who said to us, so kindly and so sadly: ‘You have seen hell where the souls of poor sinners go. When you pray the Rosary, say after each mystery: O my Jesus, forgive us, save us from the fire of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those who are most in need.’”

Our Lady instructed the Little Shepherds: “Sacrifice yourselves for sinners, and say many times, especially whenever you make some sacrifice: ‘O Jesus, it is for love of You, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.’”
