MEssage from our MinistersOur Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe
Thus says the Lord God: I myself will look after and tend my sheep. . . . I will rescue them from every place where they were scattered when it was cloudy and dark. - Ezekiel 34:11-12
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. - Psalm 23:1 . . so that God may be all in all. - 1 Corinthians 15:28 Amen I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least brothers of mine, you did for me. . . . What you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.- Matthew 25:40, 45 Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, gathers all into relationship, a relationship that is so intimate that when we love or do not love others, we are loving or not loving Jesus. It is not just about God and me; it is love that is inclusive of others. Our personal relationship with God spills over into our relationships with ourselves, others, and God’s creation or it doesn’t. St. John of the Cross notes that “In the evening of life we will be judged on love alone.” May our love for God flow over into concrete, real love of others. May we take seriously the words of Jesus so we will be welcomed into eternal life with the one who has loved us.
AN ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION My Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I long for You in my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though You have already come, I embrace You and unite myself entirely to You; never permit me to be separated from You. Sincerely, Fr. Mark PUBLIC CELEBRATION OF MASS - COVID-19

During this time of pandemic, the Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is implementing all the safety procedures that are required, as well as many additional precautions that are recommended for the safety of our community members. These include cleaning, disinfecting, and the use of masks, thermometers, and proper social distancing. We gather contact information of everyone who attends all Masses, just in case we have to call everyone who attended a particular Mass. This has happened two times in recent weeks. We had to notify everyone who attended two of our Masses here at Presentation, because we later learned that those two Masses had been attended by someone who later tested positive for coronavirus. In both cases, the person attending the Mass did not have any symptoms while attending the Mass, practiced social distancing while attending the Mass, and had conformed to the all established protocols of the parish. They assured us that they did not come in close contact with others at the Mass. Nevertheless, a parish staff member notified each of those who had attended those Masses, just to inform them that they should be alert for symptoms. We also called them again two weeks later in an effort to make sure that our safety protocols at Mass were effective and that no one became infected by attending either of the Masses. One of these Masses was a Confirmation Mass celebrated on June 29 for our parish school families, and the other was our 5:00 p.m. Mass on July 5. We are providing this information so that everyone can make informed decisions about whether they wish to attend our Masses during the pandemic. If anyone tests positive for coronavirus, please notify the parish right away (209-472-2150) so that we can notify those who were present at the Mass or service you attended. The information received will be handled in a confidential manner. Al 19 de JuLio de 2020FR. MARK'S REFLECTIONS AND ARTICLES / REFLEXIONES Y ARTÍCULOS DEL P. MARK
Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe
Today is the Solemnity of Christ the King, which is the grand finale of the liturgical year 2020, during which we have had numerous Bible Studies about the Gospel of Matthew. To conclude this year of Matthew, we hear from the Gospel of Matthew about what will happen at the end of the world, when the king comes again: “He will sit upon his glorious throne, and all the nations will be assembled before him. And he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.” Then it says that we will be judged according to what we did for the least of our brothers: “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.” This is the famous last judgment parable from chapter 25 of the Gospel of Matthew. We began this year with readings from the beginning of the Gospel of Matthew about how the king was born. The Gospel begins with the genealogy which describes the fact that Jesus was born into the family of St. Joseph and of the Virgin Mary, who were both of royal blood because he was a descendent of King David. (Matthew 1:1-16) Jesus is not born into wealth and privilege, however, because Mary and Joseph were poor, and Jesus was born in a manger. He came to live like one of us in the human family so that we could all be adopted into the “royal family” of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph! Each of us has royal dignity. That is why each of us deserves the dignity of being properly fed, clothed, and cared for as if we were the son of God himself! Our many parish ministries have provided these services to “the least of our brothers.” Those of us who have been good servants and stewards have no need to fear when our king comes again in glory. We look forward to the eternal jubilee in heaven! Fr. Fr. Mark PrayerspRAYER FOR THE sICK

Feast Day: November 22nd Cecilia has been honored as a martyr since about 545. According to a written legend, The Passion of St. Cecilia, she was a Roman Christian of the patrician class betrothed to the pagan Valerian. Th e Cecilia Passion has her singing to God in her heart on her wedding day. Cecilia tells Valerian she has made a vow of virginity and persuades him to convert to Christianity and enter into a celibate marriage. His brother, Tiburtius, also becomes a Christian. The brothers are later martyred. When Cecilia refuses to perform an idolatrous act, she too is martyred. Cecilia is the patron of musicians. “This young Roman martyr invites believers to be watchful on their journey toward the encounter with Christ, gladdening the earthly pilgrimage with the festivity of music and song. May St. Cecilia accompany each of you from Heaven, dear brothers and sisters, and help you to carry out your mission fully in the Church.”— St. John Paul II, November 22, 2003 Quote from St. John Paul II, copyright © 2003, Libreria Editrice Vaticana, Vatican City State. A Message from Fr. Mark: Our October SAINT OF THE MONTH is St. Francis of Assisi. There are several beautiful videos about St. Francis in Formed.org (FREE for our parishioners). Hello, parents of our children’s catechism program (Family of Faith). On the website Formed.org there are several films and documentaries about St. Francis of Assisi (our saint of the month for October), including a cartoon version for children! Watching this together can be part of your children’s catechism for this year! But before watching the cartoon on with your children, you may want to watch their documentary so that you can have an understanding and be able to explain it to your children. My favorite full-length film about St. Francis is unfortunately not available to us for free on Formed.org. It is the 1989 film with Mickey Rourke as St. Francis. I prefer this film because it realistically shows the hardships of the life of poverty embraced by St. Francis (Zeffirelli’s 1972 film is too flowery and fanciful!) Fr. Mark There are 3 easy steps for new parishioners to Sign Up on FORMED:

The film was based on Hermann Hesse's Francis of Assisi, which director Liliana Cavani had previously filmed in 1966. It was shot in the Italian region of Abruzzo and it stars Mickey Rourke and Helena Bonham Carter. Greek composer, Vangelis, provided the musical score. |
