MEssage from our Ministers

Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe
His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not be taken away, his kingship shall not be destroyed. - Daniel 7:14

Your throne stands firm from of old; from everlasting you are, O Lord. - Psalm 93:2

Behold, he is coming amid the clouds. . . . “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “the one who is and who was and who is to come, the almighty.” - Revelation 1:7, 8

My kingdom does not belong to this world. - John 18:36

In Already and Not Yet, Daniel J. Harrington notes: “The terms ‘already’ and ‘not yet’ capture the New Testament dynamic of eschatology. Through Jesus’ death and resurrection we have already been freed from domination by sin and death and freed for life in the Holy Spirit. And so we can now stand beside Jesus and address God as ‘Our Father,’ as we look forward in hope for the fullness of God’s kingdom. As we live between the times of the ‘already’ and the ‘not yet,’ we continue to pray ‘Thy kingdom come!’”

As we end one liturgical year and move toward the new liturgical year, let us remember that God is present in everything, that God is the beginning and the end, “the Alpha and the Omega.” Let us fill our days and nights with the awareness that God is all in all.

AN ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I long for You in my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though You have already come, I embrace You and unite myself entirely to You; never permit me to be separated from You.

Sincerely,
Fr. Mark

FR. MARK'S REFLECTIONS AND ARTICLES / REFLEXIONES Y ARTÍCULOS DEL P. MARK
Gospel Meditation

“He has made us into a kingdom…”

Today is the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. The readings today emphasize his greatness, but the second reading it says that Jesus also wants us to be great. He wants us to share in his power. It says that he has “made us into a kingdom, priests for his God and Father…” (Rev. 1:5-8) By baptism we are given a share in his power to be priest, prophet and king. All Catholics are supposed to help Jesus to rule, guide and pray for the world. We know that the saints became stronger and healthier and wiser and more fully alive. The saints developed their natural abilities to the utmost with the help of God. St. Irenaeus wrote “the Glory of God is man, fully alive.”

We can be proud of the fact that many Catholics have become great and have had a positive influence on the world. Many of the greatest artists and writers and musicians of the world were Catholic, including: J.R. Tolkien, William Shakespeare and Flannery O’Connor.

Many great athletes have been outspoken about their Catholic faith helped them through difficult times, including Vince Lombardi, Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Tommy Lasorda, Brett Favre, Don Shula, and Phillip Rivers.

It is important for us to remember that many of the greatest scientists were priests or devout Catholics, including Roger Bacon (Franciscan who invented the scientific method), Blaise Pascal (mathematician and physicist), Louis Pasteur (chemist who invented “pasteurization”), Gregor Mendel (who founded the science of Genetics), Eugenio Barsanti (priest who invented the internal combustion engine), Ramon Llull (invented the first computer), Theodoric Freiberg (priest who gave the first correct explanation of rainbows), Georges Lemaitre (priest physicist who first proposed the theory of the Big Bang). (There are more examples at http://thomism.org/history/catholic_scientists).

We rejoice today that Jesus is the King, and we also thank him because he has “called us to the glory that made us a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people set apart” (Sunday Preface 1).

-Fr. Mark

-P. Marcos

mASS iNTENTIONS - All Souls' Prayer Request

wEEKLY mASS iNTENTIONS

Month of November

Let us pray for all the Faithful Departed.

November is called the month of All Souls. More recently, it has been called the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed. Our growth in Christian perfection takes a long time. At the time of our death, many of us might not be saints yet. But God, in His mercy, allows for those who love Him to experience purification after death. Our word for that state is Purgatory. It’s the antechamber of heaven, so to speak. Here on earth, we can pray for the souls in Purgatory. Just as we have special intentions for family and friends here on earth, we can pray for those who have died. It’s also a good act of Christian charity to pray for the forgotten, those who have no one else to pray for them.

Stewardship ReflEctions

From our Stewardship Council

Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe
“Jesus answered, ‘My kingdom does not belong to this world.'” - John 18:36

Life is short. How much time, energy, and money do you put into building “your” kingdom here on earth? We all know we can’t take it with us. The real kingdom is in the next life. Yet, how much time, energy, and money do you invest in working for that eternal kingdom? Ask God for His guidance. Detach from earthly possessions. Generously share your material goods with others for the greater glory of God.

Nuestro Señor Jesucristo, Rey del Universo
“Jesús respondió, ‘Mi reino no pertenece a este mundo’”. - Juan 18:36

Sharing the Gospel
Everyone who belongs to the truth knows God's voice. When you turn your head and put your hands over your ears, you will not hear God's voice. You will say unkind words. You will do mean things. When you listen to God's voice, you will choose to follow the commandments. You will do for others what you would want them to do for you. Then, God will welcome you to his kingdom in heaven.

Prayer
Lord, help me recognize your voice and do your will.

Something to Draw

Spiritual Communion
Even if one cannot sacramentally receive the Eucharist, everyone should be aware of the practice of making a spiritual communion. The following is a daily prayer for Spiritual Communion:

O my Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament.
I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace you as if you were already there and
unite myself wholly to you.
Never permit me to be separated from you.
Amen.
-St. Alphonsus Liguori

Saint Elizabeth of Hungary

1207-1231
Feast Day: November 17

Feast Day – November 17
Elizabeth’s short life was nonetheless full; she had a happy marriage and children, was a secular Franciscan, and was so devoted to the poor and sick that she gave away royal robes and founded hospitals. The daughter of a Hungarian king, Elizabeth married a nobleman of Thuringia, Louis, at age 14. He complained about the expense of her many charities until he witnessed a miracle involving Elizabeth, bread, and roses. After he died during a Crusade, she became a Third Order Franciscan at Marburg, Germany, where she founded a hospital to care for the sick. Elizabeth, who was declared a saint in 1235, is the patron of bakers, young brides, widows, those falsely accused, countesses, and secular Franciscans.

Santa Isabel de Hungría
1207-1231

Prayer for our School
Blessed are you, Lord God,
Creator of body and mind and heart; you have sent the Spirit of wisdom and knowledge to guide your people in all their ways. At the beginning of this new school year (or semester/term) we implore your mercy: bless the students, teachers, and staff, that together we may grow in faith, hope, and love as we learn from you and each other how to follow your Son Jesus. Expand the horizons of our minds, that we may grow in wisdom, understanding, and knowledge; deepen our commitment to seek the truth of your ways; and enliven our faith to reach out to those in need. Glory and praise to you, Lord God, in the Church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever.
R/. Amen

“Our Lady showed us a great sea of fire which seemed to be under the earth. Plunged in this fire were demons and souls in human form.... ”
(Lúcia dos Santos, Visionary of Fátima)

The terrifying and horrific vision of hell, which the Shepherd Children witnessed, “lasted but an instant.” Lúcia tells us: “We looked up at Our Lady, who said to us, so kindly and so sadly: ‘You have seen hell where the souls of poor sinners go. When you pray the Rosary, say after each mystery: O my Jesus, forgive us, save us from the fire of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those who are most in need.’”

Our Lady instructed the Little Shepherds: “Sacrifice yourselves for sinners, and say many times, especially whenever you make some sacrifice: ‘O Jesus, it is for love of You, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.’”
